- Short Stem system is a total hip system consisting of porous coated titanium alloy and easy to use instrumentation. It offers the surgeon an improved bone conserving implants that is compatible with high demand femoral head bearing options. The Short stem hip stem is shorter than conventional hip stems, which allows then stem to conserve more of the patient’s femur than other prostheses
- Material & Dimensions: The proximal porous coating of the stem consists of a commercially pure Titanium coating, and is designed to have a press fir in native bone
- Need for surgery: The Short stem components are indicated for uncemented use in individuals undergoing primary and revision surgery where other treatment or device have failed in rehabilitating hips damaged as a result of trauma, inflammatory joint disease such a rheumatoid arthritis, or no inflammatory degenerative joint disease (NIDJD) or any of its composite diagnoses such as osteoarthritis; avascular necrosis; traumatic arthritis; slipped capital epiphysis: fused hip; fracture of the pelvis; diastrophic variant; nonunion, femoral neck fracture and trochanteric. Fracture of the proximal femur with head involvement that are unmanageable using other techniques; femoral osteotomy, or girdlestone resection; fracture dislocation of the hip; and correction of deformity.
For Young active patient the consideration is early mobility, high flexibility & long life of implant. Combination of Anterior Approach, uncemented short stem & cup with ceramic articulation is best & latest combination to use.
